ANAL ITCH MANAGEMENT: 

Your doctor will examine and try to exclude any obvious cause of itching like hemorrhoids, fungal infection, incontinence, pinworms, and eczema / dermatitis, other infections. For primary anal itch the following is recommended: 

  1. What you eat and drink may also cause anal itching, including dairy products, carbonated drinks, caffeinated beverages (coffee, tea and soda pop), acidic or spicy foods (tomatoes, citrus fruits, hot peppers and raw garlic). 
  1. Your clothing can also affect the skin in the area. Tight underwear or pants can trap heat and moisture (sweat) around your anus, making itching even worse. 
  1. If your doctor has prescribed a cream, use it as advised. Don’t apply the cream or ointment more than recommended. Discontinue use if the itching doesn’t go away or it gets worse. 
  1. Avoid using soap, spray, deodorants, non-prescribed creams or ointments.
